Total Gallery

04-Oct-2009

Total Gallery has been most progressive of late over five furlongs. On his penultimate run he finished second to Kingsgate Native in a Group 3 race at Goodwood. The winner didn’t entirely uphold the form in the Nunthorpe on his next start, but he was a little wrong before that race, and Total Gallery had Borderlescott behind him at Goodwood, yet Borderlescott is half his price today.

On his last run, Total Gallery was a little free through the early stages of a Group 3 contest at Newbury, but he had got the measure of his fellow front-runners, and looked a likely winner before Strike The Deal collared him inside the final 100 yards. They went very fast up front that day, perhaps setting it up for a closer, and he can do better today if he is ridden with a little more restraint by Johnny Murtagh.

Total Gallery has to step up on what he has done to date to win this, but he is progressive, a fast five-furlongs on good ground is just what he wants these days, and trainer Stan Moore, whose horses are running into form these days, has had this race in mind for him for a while. We know that there isn’t so much between the top sprint handicaps and the Group 1 sprints in terms of standard, and Total Gallery, who is still only three, is one of the most progressive horses in the field.

TOTAL GALLERY WON (ADV 11/1, SP 10/1)
