Love Lockdown

05-Sept-2009

Love Lockdown has a big chance here, and he looks well under-rated and over-priced at 10/1. Ger Lyons’s gelding looked very good in the early part of the season, beating Beethoven at Naas in June and then beating useful yardstick King Ledley in a listed race at Cork. Lyons supplemented him for the Group 2 Railway Stakes at The Curragh on the back of that performance – I think it was the first time that Lyons had ever supplemented a horse to a race – but he disappointed there, he just never got into the race, probably because of the easy ground. He had a nice break after that, however, and came back in a listed race at York last month, when he just couldn’t go with them when they quickened up at the two-furlong pole, but he stayed on really nicely under an easy enough ride from Murtagh once his winning chance had gone, to be closest at the finish. That was over five furlongs. He will be much happier stepped back up to six today. He has never raced on this surface, but he likes fast ground so he should be at home on it. He is drawn well in stall seven and Keagan Latham is a really good jockey who knows the horse well. Everything looks set for a big run.

LOVE LOCKDOWN WON (ADV 10/1, SP 7/2)
