Camden George

28-Feb-2009

This is a match in my book between William Bonney and Camden George, and I am surprised that they have bet them so far apart. Camden George is worth backing at the price. William Bonney could easily win it if he put his mind to it, but he can be a bit of a thinker. First time cheekpieces seemed to help him last time at Taunton, but even so it never looked like he was going to catch Super Formen, and you never know if the cheekpieces are going to work twice in a row.

If Degas Art consented to run his race, he would win this doing handsprings, but that is a really big if these days, and you just can't go throwing money at him every time he runs hoping that he will bounce back to his novice hurdling form. He may never.

Camden George is progressive over fences. He was only just beaten by The Duke's Speech at Wetherby over Christmas, having been ridden too aggressively (he and Degas Art took each other on from early), and he ran well last time at Cheltenham to finish third behind Ping Pong Sivola, albeit a distance third, but that horse could be a Cheltenham Festival horse. Also, the fourth horse that day, Kilcrea Asla, came out and beat the useful Pretty Star at Ludlow on Thursday. Two miles might be a little short of Camden George's best, but the soft ground will help a lot and he is worth a small bet at 4/1.

CAMDEN GEORGE WON (ADV 4/1 [R4 3.6/1], SP 7/4)
