Mon Mome

11-Dec-2008

Mon Mome has a real chance of winning the big handicap chase at Cheltenham tomorrow. He ran a cracker on his seasonal debut to chase home Possol at Haydock. He jumped and travelled really well that day and only just failed to catch the winner. He has been raised 7lb for that, but it still leaves him on a mark of just 140, 2lb lower than his rating in 2007, and that run suggests that he is in the form of his life. He is 2lb better off with Possol from Haydock, which was his seasonal debut, whereas Possol has already had the benefit of a run. The big thing about Mon Mome, though, is that he always comes on for his seasonal debut. I was disappointed that they decided to run him in this, as I had him down as my Welsh National horse and if he wins tomorrow he will have a penalty for that race, but he has a right chance tomorrow. The extra furlong and a half will suit, he is proven around Cheltenham and the 8/1 that is on offer about him this evening is fair value.

MON MOME WON (MP 8/1, SP 11/2)
