Tawajjah
Tawajjah did well to stay on as well as he did to take third place in the 10-furlong handicap that concluded proceedings at Doncaster on Saturday. Dropped on at the back of the field by Jonny Peate through the early stages of the race, he came wide early in the home straight and he stayed on well through the final three furlongs to snatch third place on the line, just a length behind the winner Thunder Run. He did well to get as close as he did, coming from the rear off a moderate pace, the winner's finishing speed was over 107% of overall speed. He was fastest of all through each of the last three furlongs.
Oli Rix's horse is five now but this was just his seventh race. He landed odds of 1/6 in a novice stakes at Wolverhampton on his final run for Roger Varian and Shadwell in November 2024 and, off the track for over a year and a half after that, it looks like he is making up for lost time. He kept on well to win a 10-furlong handicap at Sandown in July off a mark of 85, and he proved here that he was well able for his new mark of 88. Out of the Tamayuz mare Thawaany, who won a Group 3 race over six furlongs, and who is a half-sister to St Leger winner and Long Distance Cup winner Kew Gardens, he has options.
He holds an entry in the Cambridgeshire, it is unlikely that he will get into that race. He could be better over 10 or 11 or even 12 furlongs anyway, and he will be of interest wherever he goes now.
