Moonfall
Moonfall put up a good performance to finish second behind Scoville in the one-mile handicap at Doncaster on Saturday. Settled back in the field early on by Billy Loughnane, he picked up smartly on the run to the furlong marker, and he made his way through traffic to challenge on the run inside the final furlong. He couldn't get to Scoville, who quickened up well himself on the far side, but he was closing on his rival on the run to the line, going down by just three parts of a length in the end.
It was a fine run by George Boughey's horse, to get as close as he got to a talented and progressive and year-older rival. Winner of the Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot in June, he proved here that he could compete with his elders, and that he could handle a little bit of an ease in the ground. He probably wouldn't want the ground to get too soft now, but he should be fine on good to soft, and he will have options at Ascot and Doncaster later in the season, tracks that are not dissimilar and at both of which he is proven.
