Harmonics
Harmonics was unlucky not to finish closer to Ciarrai Abu than he did in the 10-furlong handicap that opened proceedings at Goodwood on Thursday. Prominent from early, just behind the leaders and along the inside, he was short of room on the far side on the run inside the two-furlong marker. He and the winner were the only two horses who were still on the bridle at that point. Switched outside by Shane Foley, he was just building momentum again when Bourbon Blues came down the outside and closed the door. His rider had no option but to snatch up. He finished only fifth in the end but, with normal luck in-running, he would almost certainly have finished second, and he would have got much closer to the winner.
An impressive winner of a novice stakes at Doncaster in early June, the Gosdens' horse made his handicap debut in the Golden Gates Handicap at Royal Ascot, and he didn't run badly there, coming widest of all and finishing just over four lengths behind the winner Lost Boys. This was a step forward from that, racing off the same mark of 97, and, with just five races on his CV, there is every chance that he will step forward again now.
