Geryon

Geryon put up a big performance in finishing second behind Enceladus in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood on Thursday. His stamina for this trip unproven, he was smuggled into the race by Colin Keane, he travelled best of all to the two-furlong marker and, when he got out after the winner on the run to the furlong marker, he picked up well, he ran all the way to the line to get to within just over a length of Enceladus, with the two of them coming nicely clear of their rivals.

Winner of the Group 3 Meld Stakes on his previous run, this was another step forward by Ger Lyons' horse. A winner over seven furlongs last year as a juvenile, he saw out the 12-furlong trip here well, and that opens up more options for him. He got close to the winner, who is seriously progressive himself, coming here, as he did, on the back of a career-best performance in winning the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot. Geryon did well to pick up as well as he did off a sedate early pace. He is on a nice upward trajectory now, and he will be of interest wherever he goes next.
