Stormy Impact
Stormy Impact did well to get as close as she got in the Dash at Epsom on Derby day. Sha had a nice draw in stall 16, but she missed the break a little bit, she was playing catch-up from early, and it didn't help that she jumped a little bit at the path that runs across the track after about a furlong. Well back in the field at half-way, she had to move towards the centre of the track, away from the favoured stands rail, in order to make progress, but she finished off her race really strongly to get up for fourth place, just over two lengths behind the winner Arklow Lad.
The Faheys' filly won the three-year-olds' Dash at this meeting last year, so it's not that she didn't handle the track, but she was taken off her feet a little bit early on, so it may be that she will be seen to better effect with a stiffer test. She was well beaten on her debut this season, in the good handicap that Jakajaro won at York's Dante meeting, but this was a nice step back up, and she should be able to go on again from this. She stays six furlongs too, she ran well to finish second in a Class 2 handicap over six furlongs on soft ground up Pontefract's steep incline last October, so she will be interesting stepped up to six furlongs again now. The handicapper dropped her by 1lb too for this run, down to a mark of 92, 4lb lower than her peak, and that was a nice bonus.
