Spoken Truth

Sallaal ran out an impressive winner of the 10-furlong handicap at Epsom on Friday, he could be very good indeed, but Spoken Truth put up a notable performance in staying on to finish third behind him. Well back in the field early on, 14th of the 16 runners as they reached the top of the hill, he made nice ground among traffic from the top of the home straight. He had to make his ground towards the far side initially, away from the favoured stands rail, where Sallaal and runner-up Respond both raced, but, moved towards the near side inside the final two furlongs, he stayed on nicely for Luke Morris to take third place. He was still only 10th passing the two-furlong marker, at which point the other five horses who, with him, filled the first six places were all in the first seven. He was second fastest of all, after the winner Sallaal, through each of the last two furlongs.

Winner of a 10-furlong maiden at Cork on soft ground as a three-year-old when he was with Dermot Weld, the Frankel gelding has finished in the first four now in each of his four runs for David O'Meara. The handicapper left him on his mark of 86 after this, which is 6lb lower than his peak rating in Ireland, and there could be a good handicap in him now off that mark. A really well-bred Moyglare horse, out of the listed race winner Joailliere and a brother to Homeless Songs, a seriously impressive winner of the Irish 1000 Guineas, this 10-furlong trip looks like a good trip for him, he is versatile in terms of ground conditions, and he will be of interest wherever he goes next.
