Zeus Power

Soldier Reeves finished off his race strongly to take fourth place in the Turners Novices' Hurdle on Wednesday, and he can be marked up on the bare form of the run, but he was spotted by plenty, he was a real eye-catcher. Zeus Power also finished off his race well to take third place, and he may still be a little under the radar. Sent off at 50/1, he was well back in the field early on in a race in which the pace held up well. Crowded out of it a little at the third last flight, he made good ground for JJ Slevin around the home turn on the inside. It never looked like he was going to get to King Rasko Grey or Act Of Innocence, but he finished off his race strongly to just get up for third place, passing four horses on the run-in and clocking the second fastest final furlong, after Soldier Reeves.

It was a big run by Joseph O'Brien's horse. He had a nice progressive profile going into the race. This was just his fourth run over hurdles, he had won his previous two, and he had finished off his race strongly on his previous run at Navan to get up and beat Lazare De Star. This was obviously a big step up in grade, but he proved here that he belonged in this company. He is flat bred, but he saw out this two-mile-five-furlong trip well, putting up a career-best performance over the longest trip over which he had ever raced, and he will be of interest again now over a similar trip. The Mersey Novices' Hurdle at Aintree or the Alanna Homes Novice Hurdle at Punchestown, both over intermediate trips, look like viable options for him now.
