Onethreefivenotout

There is no way of knowing how he would have fared in the end, but Onethreefivenotout is worthy of note as a horse who was travelling well in the Porterstown Handicap Chase when he came down at the third last fence. His jumping up to that point had been very good, and Sam Ewing appeared to be happy with where he was and how he was travelling. It appeared as if the horse had lots of energy left. Interestingly, he had the eventual winner Better Times Ahead just behind him at the time of his departure, and it appeared as if he was travelling at least as well.

Winner of a three-and-a-quarter-mile chase at Newton Abbot for Paul Nicholls last May, the Milan gelding ran well on his first run for Gordon Elliott in a handicap chase at Down Royal off a mark of 114. He stayed on well from well back in the field off a sedate pace to take second place, and that was after he was slightly hampered by Nastya's fall at the second last fence. He was racing off a 2lb higher mark of 116 on Sunday, and he was travelling like a horse who was well able for that type of mark at the time of his departure. He goes well on goodish ground and good to soft ground, but he was travelling well on the yielding to soft ground on Sunday, and he won his maiden hurdle on heavy, so he will be of interest in another staying handicap chase now.
