Rage Of Bamby

Rage Of Bamby ran well for a long way in the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes at Newbury last Saturday. Smartly away, she led the field from flagfall at a fast pace, she showed a lot of pace and she travelled well through her race. She and the winner More Thunder were the only two horses who were still on the bridle on the run to the two-furlong marker. She came under a ride on the run to the furlong marker, and she ceded the lead to Witness Stand, before More Thunder came and took the measure of both, and she weakened through the final furlong as her stamina ultimately ebbed.

This was Rage Of Bamby's first run over seven furlongs since she finished ninth in the Oh So Sharp Stakes almost three years ago as a juvenile. Since then, she has been progressing nicely over five and six furlongs, and she put up a career-best performance on her last run before the Hungerford when she won the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes at Newbury in July. Eve Johnson Houghton's filly should be seen to better effect now back at six furlongs and, a 33/1 shot when she won the Hackwood, it may be that she will be under-rated again on next time on the back of this run. She goes well at York and on Newmarket's Rowley Mile, so she will be of particular interest if she runs at one of those tracks again before the end of the season.
