Queen Of Mougins

Queen Of Mougins was impressive in winning the six-furlong handicap at The Curragh last Saturday on her first run for Adrian Murray. Weak in the market beforehand, on her first run in almost nine months, she travelled well in mid-division towards the far side. Asked for her effort by Dylan Browne McMonagle on the run to the two-furlong marker, she picked up well, she hit the front at the furlong marker, and she cleared away from Heavenly Power to win by two lengths.

It was an impressive performance, and the winning time was good. There were four races run over six furlongs at The Curragh on the day. Admittedly two of them were juveniles' races and the other was a lower-grade handicap, but Queen Of Mougins still clocked a time that was over a second faster than the next fastest. And she was faster than all her rivals through the last three furlongs of this race. A half-sister to Pretty Baby, a dual Group 3 winner over seven furlongs and a listed race winner over six, the Ten Sovereigns filly should progress again from this, her first run since last November and her first run for her new trainer. She had good form over seven furlongs for Ralph Beckett last year, but it may be that six furlongs is her optimum trip. She will obviously have to step up in grade, but she will be of interest wherever she goes now. She had good form on soft ground too last year, so it may be that she can do better again when the rains arrive.
