Beechwood
There could be a few winners of the near future lurking in Sunday's Meadow Court Stakes. The winner One Look was good, stepped up to 10 furlongs, and Paddy Twomey's filly could win again now up in grade, and Tasmania's run can be upgraded, given that she didn't have a lot of racing room late on, and that she was still faster than all her rivals through the final two furlongs. But they are both obvious, and two of the other beaten horses may be a little more under the radar.
Beechwood is one. A stable companion of the winner's, she travelled really well through her race. Still on the bridle on the run around the home turn, she moved up nicely on the outside when Shane Foley asked her to, but her run just flattened out on the run to the furlong marker, and she kept on to finish fourth.
It was a really nice run by Paddy Twomey's filly on her first run since last October. She won the Listed Oyster Stakes then, on yielding ground over the stiff 12 furlongs at Galway. She should come on for this run, and she should improve for the move to easier ground, which she should get as we move into the late summer and early autumn, and for stepping back up in trip, back up to a mile and a half or a mile and six furlongs. Her grandam is a half-sister to the St Leger winner Milan. The Lillie Langtry Stakes may be coming up too quickly, but the Ballyroan Stakes could be a good short-range target for her now and, looking further ahead, the Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster could suit her well.
