Cheshire Dancer
Cheshire Dancer stayed on well to finish third in the Kensington Palace Stakes over the straight mile at Royal Ascot on Wednesday. Settled back in mid-division early on from her high draw, and on the near side of the stands side group, she travelled well to the three-furlong marker, and she picked up nicely when she came under a ride on the run to the two. She had no answer to the finishing effort of Miss Information on the far side, but she closed on the runner-up Snellen all the way to the line, just missing out on second place by a head.
It was a fine performance by Hugo Palmer's filly, it was another step forward from a filly who continues to progress. She won over a mile at Leicester on her previous run, for which she was rewarded with a 4lb hike, which left her on a mark of 83 for the Kensington Palace, and another 3lb was not harsh. She remains potentially well handicapped on a mark of 86. She is by the Irish Guineas winner Phoenix Of Spain and she is out of a mare who won over five furlongs, but she saw out this stiff mile well, and it may be that she can progress again for the step back up to nine or 10 furlongs. She put up a nice performance on her second run to date over 10 furlongs in finishing second behind an unexposed filly of William Haggas', Min Huna, at Sandown last August, the pair of them clear, and she remains unexposed at the trip, but she will also be of interest again over a stiff mile.
